Hi, I'm Charly. I create, improve, and maintain free software (and other commons). To fund this work I have chosen to ask for the direct support of the community.

I'm the creator of Liberapay, the website you're on right now, and before that I had contributed a lot to its predecessor (Gittip/Gratipay). I also created other free software projects that you can find on my GitHub profile. My latest creation is an interesting little Python module named memory_inventory.

I've made a number of contributions to other people's open source projects. A small fix I once contributed to lxml earned me the Mars 2020 Contributor badge on GitHub.

I have an interest in Open Data. I started working on legi.py when the database of French laws was released as open data in 2014. One of the things my code did was to generate lists of anomalies in the data, to encourage the maintainers to correct them.

I'm an ArchLinux user. Throughout the years I've added some packages to the AUR, contributed to the wiki, and a long time ago I wrote the initial implementation of the -Qk subcommand of pacman.

For many years I've been unsatisfied with all the programming languages I've used or looked into, so in the last days of 2023 I started writing a compiler for a next generation programming language: Gato. It's a long term project and I don't have a lot of free time to work on it. You can help change that by taking things off my plate or by making a donation to me through Gato's Liberapay account.

I occasionally contribute to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. I used to maintain Liberapay's Wikipedia article because nobody else does, but I stopped in 2023 after someone wrongly accused me of breaking Wikipedia's rules.
